“Yes, A Loaf”

Loaf bread, rope

This piece is drawn to the metaphor of bondage and how it can be used to explore the complex dynamics of modern life and anxious psychology. In many ways, people are all bound in various ways, mentally and physically.

Through the use of rope, I explore the ways in which these various forms of bondage can be both comforting and confining. By using the rope as an extension of the hand, I am able to transmit certain emotions to the viewer, creating a visceral experience that speaks to the power of touch and the importance of human connection.

At the heart of bondage is an exchange of power. However, as with all power dynamics, there is always the risk of abuse and exploitation, and it is this tension that I seek to explore in my work. By highlighting the temporary nature of bondage and the agency that the bound person retains and aim to create a space for reflection and dialogue around the complex dynamics of power and control in our lives.
